Take Part in the Legacy

Our Story

THEN

Why We're Here

To us, Victoria epitomizes the fullness of family. Each story Victoria creates adds to our rich legacy.

Built around 1883, this iconically beautiful home is the longest standing structure in the quaint and historic district of New Smyrna Beach.

It’s story is about human connection. Daughter of one of New Smyrna’s pillar families and first residents, Victoria Sheldon grew up familiar with the creativity of the building process.

Her family formed a sixty room hotel on top of the Old Fort Park mound, an expansive housing space said to be “the finest hotel south of Saint Augustine.” However, tragedy was soon to strike as a Union Navy bombardment was to ravage the town and destroy much which was once loved.

Nonetheless, Victoria’s deep roots in creativity and commitment to her family’s estate were unmoved. Having met and married Edmund Kirby (E.K.) Lowd, the Lowds began their own dynamic building and entrepreneurial ventures when they created an imaginative space for learning—the Ocean House.

With time, their ventures allowed them to establish their namesake Victoria Estate, a structure still standing to this day. E.K. passed on four years after the house’s formation, and Victoria followed him on the exact date five years later.

The inscription on E.K.’s tombstone reads “A light from our households is gone / A voice we loved is stilled / A place is vacant in our hearts / That can never be filled.”

Twenty years later, the Victoria Theater was built and provided performances and entertainment as meaningful moments to many. Now, through the Victoria Estate, even more meaningful moments are being transformed into lasting memories.

E.K. and Victoria’s heart for this home shines clear, and its family legacy of light and love continues on not through the Sheldons but now through the Spooners.

NOW

Who We Are

Joining the larger Spooner family residing in the Florida area, architect Peter and event and hospitality specialist Fabiola Spooner have taken up the Sheldon & Lowd legacy to revive the property.

Their vision looks back to the Sheldons’ rich history as an epicenter of human connection. The Spooners, likewise, seek to foster a space that celebrates life’s most precious moments that will become unforgettable memories.

What We Do

With a refreshed elegant and chic look, the bed & breakfast and wedding venue now merges Victorian and vintage accents with modern flair.

Passionate about people’s unique cultures and distinct histories combined with a love of artful design, nature, and culinary exploration, Victoria is fully re-imagined in a manner that takes the family legacy from one family, to another, to you and yours.

Welcome.
